HOTWALLS STUDIOS

DEKORGRIP RESIN BOUND PORTSMOUTH
About

SITUATION:

Located in Portsmouth UK, the Hotwalls project tastefully modernises the historic red brick navy battery archways into new art studios transforming the area into a tourism hub. The idea was inspired from the Sunday art sales previously housed in the archways. The archway transformation changed the area from an underused and unsafe area to a tourism hot spot with links to the beach and views of Gunwharf and the seafront.

The hotwalls area required a surface that was both permeable and fitted in and modernised the historic setting.

BEHIND THE SCENES:

The natural aggregate blends were selected to be laid at a depth of 20mm, which would sustain the demand of footfall. The choice of blends mixed in with traditional block work makes a visually stunning surface. It allowed the contractor to provide distinctive areas around the studios, highlighting walkways and beach front.

EcoGrid reduces project costs by stopping the finer aggregate falling through the surface substrate.

DURABILITY:

The Hotwalls resin bound surface was applied on top of an EcoGrid System providing a permeable surface base. The EcoGrid system avoids the water pooling and enables the resin bound system to look good throughout the systems life span. EcoGrid minimises maintenance, and reinforces natural drainage, and helps to increase load capacity, and reduces the cost of aggregate used within the project.

Resin bound surfaces can be flexibly applied around tree pits, block work, statues or drainage units like those pictured above. It is often used with different materials like the decking and block paving to provide visual contrast.

Resin bound surfaces mixers as pictured above speed up the process and ensure a consistent mixture of the UV stable resin and aggregate and can also be hired from Meon. Meon offer a wide range of blends and customisable aggregate blend options to your specification.

SOLUTION:

The Natural Wicker aggregate blends were selected to be laid at a depth of 20mm, which would sustain the demand of footfall. Meon supported the contractor throughout the project providing training technical site and products support.
